Sojo is a South African brand that makes children’s clothing and toys by hand. Its products are manufactured by a local community-based project and original Shweshwe designs are used when making these simple, classic and beautiful tunics, dress, dungarees, beanies and toys. These products reflect a spirit of something which is wholesome, innocent and adventurous, and the high quality means they can be passed on through the generations. Children learn to appreciate the beautiful designs and the quality of these items. When SoJo was formed in 2010, there were just simply no such hand-crafted crocheted and sewn products on the market. These items celebrate South African designs and creativity, and also create employment for house-bound women, and enable them to feed their families. Jackie Kilcullen, founder of SoJo, started off making clothing for her own children – and the business took off from there.
